Natasha Richardson (1963 – 2009)

Shockingly and tragically, Natasha Richardson is dead at 45. The Guardian, The Washington Post, The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times have preliminary pieces on her.

I'm more familiar with the work of her husband Liam Neeson and her mother Vanessa Redgrave, two of my favorite actors, but Natasha Richardson was good in everything I saw her in. This development is simply devastating. Condolences to her family and friends, and most of all to her two young sons in this difficult time.

Update: Fresh Air re-ran a good short interview with Natasha Richardson. She discusses trying to hide her famous pedigree when auditioning for drama school, and the traditional British versus Stanislavski approach to acting.

  1. It is very sad indeed. I think of her role in "The Handmaid's Tale" - really brilliant.

Life is very fragile and precious, which is but one of many compelling reasons to live it with intention.

  2. Weirdly enough, a week ago I was sitting in a theater at the AFI Institute in Silver Spring, Maryland, where a brief interview with her was featured before the film rolled.

The theater shows a three minute promotional clip whereby random celebrities rave about the place and she was one of them.
