I'll never forget my first viewing of it in LA when it opened, and I just happened to watch the VHS of it last night. It's as haunting and moving as anything Kurosawa made, though obviously not the kind of bravura kinetic visual masterpiece as others. To the films you list I'd add Akahige or Red Beard, the last collaboration with Mifune, and the one on which they had their falling out.
